a person close to me developed a foot drop and does not have sense in the big toe because of damaged nerve in the lower back. he went to the doctor and is getting treatment but i'm really scared. afaik its level 2 nerve damage. will his foot recover?

: Assuming the foot drop is due to nerve compression at the L-5 nerve root, when the problem is relieved surgically or secondary to disc desiccation and shrinkage, the nerve may regenerate.  If solely the myelin is afflicted, the turnaround could be about 4 wks., but if axonal, any resolution would proceed at the speed of fingernail growth.  An EMG test can reveal the extent of problems.

how much therapy is needed for perenoal nerve damage from drop foot? its already been 1yr. thebproblem is lateral movement.

Foot drop : If from trauma, MRI of knee and EMG nerve conduction studies are now indicated.  You may be a candidate for a nerve transfer.  You need to see a specialist skilled in peripheral nerve surgery.

See neurologist: Other conditions (or medications like amitriptyline) can contribute to neuropathy. Kidney disease, diabetes, vitamin deficiency (or toxicity in the case of vitamin b6 toxicity)  infections and thyroid disease might need to be adressed in addition to other physical issues causing nerve compression or traction (tarsal tunnel syndrome).  This problem usually requires a good work up.

i can't stand on tiptoes on my right foot why ? i did a microdiscectomy surgery in l5 s1 before 2 weeks. is this nerve damage or what?is there a cure?

Maybe : You really need to go see the surgeon who operated on you and evaluate the causes of your inability to stand on your tiptoes. If these changes are sudden you need to go to the ER

Not effective: Unfortunately chemo related neuopathy is not easy to treat. Standard options include trials of nurontin, Lyrica (pregabalin) or Cymbalta plus pain medicaions. Otc drugs used include vitamins suh as pyridoxine, b vitamins or glutathione or capsaicin cream but they may be not too helpful.

have had tingling etc in both feet for years have had mri scan etc 8years ago was informed it could be a neuropathy no treatment given still have symp?

Would need: a lot more medical information in addition to the summary of an 8 year old MRI in order to even give you  a ballpark set of possibilities.  This should be evaluated by either a good internist or neurologist in person.

Peripheral neuropath: The treatment of peripheral neuropathy relies heavily on the cause of the nerve damage. The pain of the neuropathy usually controlled with medications. Treatment with the electrical stimulation fields has been investigated and analgesic benefits have been reported, but not consistent.

can neuropathy spread? i have sudden onset peripheral neuropathy of the feet.it has not responded to standard treatment of several meds.i think its speading into my hands.my hands are numb and painful

Yes it can: Peripheral neuropathy also called sensorimotor neuropathy is a nerves dysfunction in the arms and legs. Feet and legs are likely to be first affected then later  hands and arms. Common symptoms are numbness, a tingling, burning, prickling, sharp pain, 
weight loss and depression. Percocet, Vicodin from your list are effective primarily in acute pain conditions. Neuropathy is a chronic pain.

Possible: is the damage from infection or injury? If Injury and was recent it is possible that some of the damage will heal. If infection prompt treatment may halt the process

Depends upon cause: If due to ischemic process, like a stroke, may be irreversible.  If due to trauma, might heal over time.  If due to optic neuritis should gradually reverse in most cases.
