Neuropathy: Neuropathy is related to the nerves, so until the nerve supply affects the blood supply, etc., the foot can look outwardly normal. Generally, people with neuropathy can have other related problems. A diabetic can have poor blood supply, neuropathy, high risk of infection and poor wound healing, leading to  "disgusting" feet.

New patient exam: Certainly the neurologist will ask you many questions,followed by a hands on exam. You may be asked to have a nerve conduction test. That is one way to determine how severe your problem is. Your degree of pain is also a good indicator of severity.

Neurological examination is normal, objective muscle weakness is not present and laboratory evaluation is normal.

Yes.: People with neuropathy may have trouble sensing temperature, and this can be a setup for problems because they don't know their skin is getting too hot if near a source of heat.
