is itching feet and ankles a sign of diabetes?

Accepted Answer

Possible, but rare: Peripheral diabetic neuropathy, often starting on the feet, can have itching sensation but more often with burning/tingling/pain rather than itching.  Often dry skin, eczema (dishydrosis), fungal infections are causes of itching on feet areas. I suggest consulting doc for an examination and test for diabetes, if needed. Good luck.

is needle-like pain in my foot below the ankle a possible sign of gout?

Gout: Gout can present as intense pain in any joint of the body.  Having said that, the gout crystals tend to migrate to the coldest parts of the body which is why we normally see it in the foot.  Signs of a gouty attack would be swelling, redness and pain in a joint.  Gout normally affects 1 joint at a time.  I would advise evaluation by a podiatrist since many things can cause foot pain.

Difficult to tell: Clinically, it is difficult to differentiate an ankle fracture from a bad sprain.  A rule of thumb generally used is that if you can bear weight or walk, it is less likely you have a fracture.  If you have continued pain it is best to see a physician.

husband foot ankle calf ran over by forklift. refuses er but i am concerned of internal bleeding. any signs to look for? can walk and move everything

Doubt int bleed: Internal bleeding in the leg is usually seen with hard tight painful muscle compartments.  It's also very soon after a trauma like that.  If he has no pain and is able to move without pain, it's unlikely he has internal muscle bleeding (compartment syndrome).  As far as tearing vessels, it's highly unlikely from your description.  Set up an appointment to a doctor, he may quality for workers  comp.

jumped into shallow swimming pool, can not distribute any weight on foot, no signs of bruising, but swelling on foot, and ankle. foot mobility is limited?

Rule out fracture: Symptoms are consistent with eother ankle sprain or ankle fracture. Don't mention how long since injury occurred. Worth getting ankle/foot x-ray in case bone is broken. In which case you may or may not require an orthopedic boot or cast and/or use crutches to avoid weight bearing. Good Luck

i have recently rolled my ankle but i have done research and i have no signs of swelling or bruises but i still can barely put weight on my ankle. i was on a walk and was on one foot all the way home. should i get my ankle checked out?

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. Your symptoms suggest that a fracture needs to be ruled out. It would be prudent to see a doctor as you may need x-ray examination of your ankle. Wish you good health!

my 5 mo son has ankle clonus and has been checked with a pediatric neurologist. normal ultrasound, neurologist wiggled his feet and couldnt elicit anything. no other signs of cp - i.e. no spasticity etc. but i can elicit it at home. should i worry?

Watch it...: you may have a hematoma under the skin which is a collection of blood from your injury. It may also be pressing on a nerve which is giving you shooting pains OR it could be the muscle bruised in which every time you move, it hurts..Use ice, rest and wrapping. If it gets bigger, red or significantly  more swollen, see someone.
