Ankle sprain: An ankle sprain can include pain, swelling and discomfort in the affected ankle. The immediate action on your part would be Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation. Try to stay off the ankle and use a cane or crutch until you see a Podiatrist who will examine you, take X-rays and determine what grade ankle sprain you may have.

Signs.: Sprains usually begin with pain. Swelling, discoloration and the decreased ability to move or stand on your foot without pain. Most of these symptoms can be drastically reduced by applying ice, elevation, some mild compression and rest. After 24-48 hours some heat applications may help.
