No specific foods: While no foods will improve your neuropathy, unless you have a vit b deficiency, keeping the factors that caused the neuropathy in control are most important. For example, patients with diabetic neuropathy need to keep their sugars under control to decrease the risk of progression of their neuropathy. i read an article about"medical food" being used to treat diabetic neuropathy.it was called metanx(r)..can someone please explain this to me?

"Medical food": Hi. Metanx contains the ACTIVATED forms of several B vitamins (folate, B6, B12). Data show that these "nutrients" augment healing &amp; repair of nerves damaged by diabetic peripheral neuropathy, unlike the other drugs (like gabapentin, pregabalin, etc) that just attenuate the symptoms of painful neuropathy. I think Metanx is worth a try if you have painful neuropathy. Insurance doesn't cover it.

can pregabalin controlled or extended release variant provide whole day coverage if someone have neuropathy including rls symptoms?? kind of wanting to avoid multiple dosing throughout day so looking for alternative options, thanks?

: Pregabalin has a longer half-life than gabapentin and can easily provide excellent outcomes if taken no more often than twice daily.  Cymbalta has shown benefits in areas of nerve pain, but is not as useful in RLS; however, can be taken once daily.

how can i avoid tolerance developing of gabapentin? i suffer from insomnia, rls & neuropathy . it effectively serves me for said purpose but tolerance builds up & it looses effect for insomnia after every week of taking it regularly. thanx?

: Gabapentin possesses a relatively short half-life, resulting in a  need to take thrice  daily to maintain effects, so what you see may be dose wearing-off, rather  than tolerance.  You will likely do better  on Lyrica, which can be  taken twice daily.

negative emg - diagnosed with ulnar neuropathy. is surgery still beneficial as a preventative measure (to avoid muscle wasting) at this stage?

It depends : If the ulnar neuropathy was demonstrated from an imaging study showing a compression or other specific cause surgery might be beneficial but the lack of correlation to the EMG/NCV is bothersome. Discuss further with your doctor about the benefits of surgery and the current diagnosis before proceeding would be a suggestion.

Peripheral causes loss of feeling in hands/feet, weakness & imbalance. This can lead to wound development & possible amputation. Autonomic leads to heart problems, problems w/ body temp, erectile dysfunction, dry skin, & digestive problems.
