can i give my 5 month old baby pureed raw foods?

Yes: I would question why so soon.In previous years when homemade formula from cow milk was routine, early feeding was necessary to improve nutrition. Now we understand breast or formula alone is fine & allows baby to develop motor skills that improve their transition to solids.I like to start @ 6m & making your own is a great way to avoid some of the additives & preservatives in commercial products.

is mold from food toxic to simply just be around?

Accepted Answer

: Depends on the mold. Discuss with your local health care team as they will know which molds are a problem in WA.  I generally do not recommend eating moldy food other than good cheeses.

is food mold dangerous/life threatening? a blender cup was left unattended and gained significant green mold?

Accepted Answer

: You should not eat it but one accidental ingestion of that cup will unlikely endanger your health in the long term. In general, most moldy foods should be discarded. Take care.

pt can go back to eating regular food instead of pureed food.  but still has to drink thickened water.  reasons for both?

What did the doc say: This type of dietary change is a direct reflection of the clinical circumstances that resulted in the change. Was there a stroke? Recent surgery? Parkinson's disease? Prolonged hospital stay? Etc. in the absence of the reason the diet was changed, commenting on why is fruitless at best and malpractice at worst. You need to discuss with the doc who prescribed the diet.

when a food in a jar got bad (rotten or got mold on it) i throw the food rinse the jar and wash it in dishwasher. is it ok?

: Once the rotten food is removed and the jar is sanitized it should be ok to use. If overly concerned you can sterilize it in a pot of boiling water.

can draining food over a pan which has been soaking for twelve hours be harmful to health? can mold get onto the food from the pan?

Accepted Answer

Your question is: ambiguous. Did you drain excess fluid from the food into the pan or put food into the pan when it had dirty water in it?  You shouldn't cook food in water that has been sitting in a dirty pan for 12 hours. But its okay if you washed the pan thoroughly with dish detergent and hot water before using it to prepare food.  And YES, mold can grow anywhere food's been sitting around long enough.

i notice my blender for making baby puree has got some scratches inside. should i worry about scratched off plastic getting into the baby food?

To be safe.....: try to use a blender vessel made of glass. Some plastics, especially older ones, may contain BPAs.

Typically developing: 8- month -olds can eat fork-mashed soft foods &amp; finger foods. They also repeat behaviors which garner negative or positive attention. Offer food at pleasant, sit-down family meals &amp; snacks. Don't nudge her to eat. With an emerging pincer grasp, she can  finger feed soft diced food &amp; hold a spoon. Food: Often the best way to get baby to eat healthy, is to be sneaky. This means take the things that she doesn't like and mix them in with things that she does like. This also works for giving baby medications that she doesn't like. Again, put them in food she likes and you'll have all bases covered.

Too early: Babies do not need solids in the first year.Formula or breast milk are total nutrition. As a culture, we generally begin offering solids as a puree as soon as they sit up,which is about the time their tongue thrust fades. Six months is the earliest I start and I let the kid decide when they are ready.You may offer an item a dozen times before they decide to try it. Be patient.
