Go slow: You may want to slowly broaden the range of foods you eat after the surgery, starting with liquid diet and gradually introduce solid foods as you tolerate them - kind of like you do with a baby transitioning him from breast milk or formula to baby food and then to table food.

Preferences change: The taste of food is not different. However, food preferences do sometimes change. Some people don't crave fatty foods the same. Hunger is decreased consistently.

Gastroparesis : Gastroparesis is not well understood. Diagnosis is clinical &amp; nuclear gastric emptying scan. Treatment is medication &amp; dietary, alternative medicine therapies, or surgery - gastric stimulator, "valve" opening, or near complete removal of the stomach, similar to a gastric bypass, but with the stomach excised. This is a last resort. Hope this helps!

can i do the duodenal switch with a bmi of 27.5? had gastric bypass 7 yrs ago. gaining weight again. i exercise, but my stomach fits a lot of food!

No: Duodenal switch will not work in a patient that has undergone gastric bypass, since the food stream no longer goes by way of the duodenum.  If you are gaining weight after a gastric bypass, you should see your surgeon or a specialized GI physician, who can determine the cause for weight gain.  This is usually due to enlargement of the connection between the stomach pouch and the intestine.

Maybe a conincidence: Gasttic bypass is unrelated to breaking teeth. I would not expect to see the two problems together unless there was some coincidental bulimea.... Often times teeth break secondary to a high caries rate. This can be hereditary or more likely it can relate to poor oral hygiene.. It can also relate to a hereditary condition that results in malformation of the teeth like an enamel formation defect.

Anastomotic ulcer: Yes. A blockage or narrowing of your gastro jejunal anastomosis can occur if you have an anastomotic ulcer. The ulcer needs to be aggressively treated with proton pump inhibitors and carafate (sucralfate). Also make sure you are not taking any nsaids or smoking.

Doubt it: I have heard of some bariatric centers offering some weight control surgery to kids as young as 16, but not younger. These limits are subject to change over time as the treatment standards evolve.
