rx for benzoyl peroxide gel 5% for folliculitis on stomach & under breasts. skin very red & rashy after 1 use is this normal or should i stop using it?

Evaluate: Do confirm the diagnosis.
Please make sure, it's not yeast infection or impetigo.
That may need different meds.
Benzoyl Peroxide is primarily use for acne and can be an irritant in sensitive areas.
Folliculitis, if that is what it is...often is bacterial infection.

Acne: Sorry you are having skin issues that bother you. Stay hydrated, wear clean clothes and change after workout. Try hypoallergenic cleanser. Topical treatments work great for dermatological issues. You can try some  benzoylperoxide or step up to a topical like dapsone which my patients feel really works quickly. Fungus, Yeast, Bact.: It is not due to stress. It can be caused by shaving with damage to the follicle, bacteria, yeast, or even wearing tight clothing, but stress is not a causative factor.

i have folliculitis on the chest area. it's a small area. i am given me a oral medicine. when i stop the medicine, the pimple do arrive again.

One idea: Especially at your age, "folliculitis" is often caused by the same microbe that causes tinea versicolor, and can be addressed just with topical agents, sparing you the need for systemic rx. Get a second opinion.

i've been prescribed 100mg minomycin for folliculitis. i've used it for almost a week and it's worse than ever on my chest, back and face. any ideas?

Takes longer to work: It takes longer than a week.Use for another week and if still no better call the prescribing doctor

Antibiotics: Most of time, dermatologists would use oral doxycycline. Others include minocycline, Clindamycin or sulfa-drugs. Topicals would help but less effective. You'd better let dermatologists handle it instead of doing it yourself.

i've been told i have pityrosporum folliculitis- slightly rough pink papules non-itchy on chest/back. 1. what are the best oral and topical meds? 2. is jojoba oil ok? 3. how do i reduce the redness?

See a dermatologist: Jojoba oil a waste of money. Pityrosporum is another term for dundruff.  Good to wash in shower using shampoo containing zinc pyrethium, selenium sulfide, ketoconazole, tar, or salycilic acid. You probably need a different prescription ; perhaps a different diagnosis.

i have folliculitis on my chest and back.  i have been taking doxycycline for 4 days but no improvement yet.  how long does it take for antibiotic to begin clearing this up?  itching and stinging are very uncomfortable.

Contact your doctor: Assuming the diagnosis is correct and the folliculitis is an infection (not all cases are), there should have been improvement by now. However, it can take a week or more. Doxycycline isn&#x27;t the usual antibiotic for folliculitis, but it often would work. Contact the doctor who prescribed it. If you are treating yourself, stop the doxycycline and see a doctor.

i was diagnosed with folliculitis and i have pink-red spots all over my chest, legs, arms, and back. i have been taking keflex for a day and a half and its getting worse. is it normal to get worse before it gets better?

: not really. You should be evaluated with a culture from the lesions and possibly might need a different medication. See a dermatologist for eval.

Could be: It could be "hot-tub folliculitis" which typically goes away on its own if a person stays out of the hot tub until the rash is gone. Rashes are hard to describe and to visualize in words, so a doctor would have to examine the rash to tell what it really could be.
