Crunch: It is called crepitus. Articular noise or palpatory crepitus. if not associated with pain, joint swelling, limitation of joint motion, can probably just leave alone. Could see prosthodontist for mouth guard if bothersome.

Move it back: A dislocated jaw joint is almost always anterior-ally.  That means the jaw has been dislocated out of the fossa to the front.  If you move the jaw back and up it should go into the normal position in the base of the skull.  Dislocation of the jaw joint happens in dental and throat surgery when the surgeon has to open the jaw widely and the jaw pops out anterior ally. As a last resort see dentist.

TMJ: In a healthy TMJ you should be opening straight up and down without deviating to,the side. Deviation upon opening can mean there is a muscle problem or a internal structural problem in the joint.  See a dentist that treats TMJ for an evaluation.

See your dentist to: You should set up an appointment with your dentist who can check your occlusion (bite), your jaw joints (TMJ) and facial muscles, along with the possibility of habits such as clenching or grinding (bruxism) which may account for the symptoms you mentioned.

TMJ: Usually tmj. Temperomandibular joint dysfunction.  Could be arthritis due to other cause or be unrelated to the joint ( your parotid gland and several important nerves are close by.).

See doctor/dentist: The jaw joint can be affected by a variety of conditions such as inflammation with rheumatoid arthritis, degeneration of the jaw cartilage disc with osteoarthritis, or other mechanical problems as in TMJ (temporomandibular joint) syndrome. I would start by seeing your dentist. If you were to see a doctor, i would see an ENT specialist.

TMD: The jaw pain is primary and you need a dentist who is knowledgeable in jaw and muscle problems related to the temporo-mandibular joint (jaw joint).  The fact that your ear is directly behind the jaw joint makes you feel that the ear is involved.  In reality, if you hearing has not changed and you have no drainage or tenderness in the ear canal, the jaw is your only problem.
