Why is my temporomandibular joint jaw opening slanted?

TMJ: In a healthy TMJ you should be opening straight up and down without deviating to,the side. Deviation upon opening can mean there is a muscle problem or a internal structural problem in the joint. See a dentist that treats TMJ for an evaluation.

TMJ disorder: While mandibular range of motion is usually normal, occasionally the disc displacement may interfere with joint function. This can cause a momentary "catch" during the translatory cycle and jaw deviation is obvious.

Jaw deviation TMJ: Likely a TMj problem. When one TMJ is involved, the jaw will often deviate to that side. See a TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
