Needs exam: Asthma patients can have significant complication of flu particularly when it attacks the lungs. The persistent cough is not as unexpected or worrisome as coughing up blood. I would encourage him to get in for an exam &amp; possible testing/x-rays.

Symptoms:  Mild COVID 19 is possible. Suspicion for COVID 19 is higher with at least 2 of these sx’s: temp of at least 99.6, Cough, Shortness of breath, Chills, Shivering, Muscle pain, Headache, Sore throat or new loss of taste or smell.

: COVID 19 testing is one consideration and may be arranged at your local testing site. The symptoms of COVID 19 include cough, fever and vomiting. Keep nasal passages clear with the use of nasal saline after checking with your Pediatrician. Consider asthma and an allergic reaction. Monitor temperature, breathing and watch for shortness of breath, lethargy and vomiting.

Possibly....: Influenza can take up to 7-10 days to completely resolve. However, if the fever is becoming significantly higher, if you start to cough up discolored sputum, if you develop shortness of breath, then you need to be re-evaluated for complications of flu like bacterial pneumonia, bronchitis, etc. Bacterial superinfection is a complication of flu so see your doc if these symptoms develop.

Bronchitis: A prolonged cough that is not adequately treated can develop into a bronchitis or pneumonia. Wheezing can also be a sign of development of asthma. I recommend you see a doctor who can examine your chest and then decide on diagnosis and treatment.

Mgt: Most uncomplicated viral illnesses should resolve within 10 days. If you have had a fever for more than three days or a prolonged course, I would advise a follow up visit.

Flu+Abx = still Flu: Well.... Flu symptoms are caused by a virus and shouldn't respond to antibiotics so i don't believe you have had a medication failure.  If you persist with viral type symptoms you can continue to ride this out, but if things appear to be going downhill you should see your doc for re-ealuation.

i have been having giddiness, headache on & off for 2 weeks. no cough, flu symptoms. my gp cannot diagnose anything. i am concern of serious illness?

Usually a good sign: As a neurologist used to seeing really nasty stuff-  I'd say NOT being able to find anything after a couple of weeks  is usually a good sign. Nevertheless, I understand your air of caution. Perhaps, you should keep track of ALL SYMPTOMS on a log. Sometimes, this leads to patterns that your GP can better recognize and organize into something treatable. Make sure you're not overusing OTC meds.
