Yes.: Flomax (tamsulosin) is part of a family of drugs called alpha-blockers that relax the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, improving urine flow & symptoms. Other drugs in this group are terazosin, doxazosin, alfuzosin, & silodosin. Another family of drugs for BPH are 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors, such as Finasteride and dutasteride.  These shrink the prostate and reduce episodes of urine retention.

Flomax: Flomax simply relaxes the muscle at the outlet of the urinary bladder allowing better urine outflow. There is no anticancer property.

I : I agree---going off the medicine does not good.  Just let your doctor know that you are on it and he can take the necessary operative precaustions during the surgery.  Don't let this stop you from having the surgery that will improve your vision.

my husband takes 0.4 mg of flomax for enlarged prostate. his psa is well within normal range per his doctor. are there any otc medications or supplements as effective as flomax that you would suggest ? thank you?

: Flomax is used for the LUTS (lower urinary tract symptoms) which are often present in a patient with enlarged prostate. Flomax does not make the prostate smaller (shrinking). Decreasing Semen: Nope. The prostate gland should be thought of as a balloon.  The semen production is decreased with this medication so less is filling up the prostate and with less fluid there is less size or a smaller 'balloon'.

Flomax (tamsulosin): Flomax (tamsulosin) will not help reduce the size of an enlarged prostate. It may help reduce some of the symptoms of having an enlarged prostate such as frequency, urgency, incomplete emptying and nocturia.

Thanks for asking!: Flomax (tamsulosin) only improves the symptoms af enlarged prostate, and is a prescription medicine approved by fda.Super beta is not approved by fda and is sold without prescription as a supplement without any scintifically documended proof for its effectiveness and side effects etc.
I will suggest you talk to your doctor or urologist before you stop Flomax (tamsulosin) as we can not advice you without knowing your case.

Probably not: There shouldn't be a problem. However, just because quarterback joe likes it (and gets paid to be a shill for it) doesn't mean it works. I'd talk to my doctor and i'd be very careful about stopping Flomax (tamsulosin) and depending on unproven therapy.

Mo: Nothing that you mentioned shrinks the prostate.   Flomax only relaxes the smoothe muscle component of the prostate.  Otc products largely are  ineffective.   Prescription Proscar or Avodart (dutasteride) are the only drugs that actually shrink the prostate.
