Accepted Answer

Be patient: Cataract surgery is optional.  Unless she is having trouble with her activities, it can wait.  If she is having difficulty with seeing to do things, then point out that cataract surgery will very likely make this better.  She may change her mind over time.

Amblyopia: Amblyopia, or lazy eye, occurs when an eye does not have visual input to the brain for the connection to develop. If you were told you have severe amblyopia, it is unlikely for a cataract surgery to improve your vision. However, that said, I &amp; many eyeMDs have patients who were told they had a lazy eye but ended up having significantly improved vision after cataract surgery or PPV/vitrectomy.

Seek help: If you eye is truly that swollen you need to seek help immediately.  You only have two eyes and your vision is critical to living. While it could be something benign as allergy related don't delay evaluation!  Best of luck

is laser surgery required after having a cataract eye operation?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Sometimes laser vision correction is offered after cataract surgery in order to decrease dependence on glasses,  but it is not required. There is another type of laser that is sometimes needed to improve vision in about 10% of cataract patients called yag capsulotomy. Speak to your cataract surgeon to clarify.

i have had a cataract operation on my right eye, the lens i had inserted was for long distance, i am considering a short distance lens for my left eye. could you tell me how far i will be able to see with a short distance lens please?

Cataract distance : I am not a cataract specialist but suspect one would say no.  You would need to close one eye depending on how far away you wanted to see.  They should both be the same I think.  Discuss with your EYE team and let us know what they say.

I had my own set for distance and it was like getting a new TV or a new phone I could see so much better.  But need to use readers. Which I get at drug store.

recently white spots in my eyes looks like lace lasts 1 min. 3 or 4x  also dizzy spells when lying down. cataract operation 10 years ago. serious?

Accepted Answer

Yes very serious: You may have TIA ( transient ischemic attacks)  a  warning sign for   impending stroke , you have to see your doctor immediately , or better  go to er & call  , for work up and treatment to prevent a future stroke.

Accepted Answer

: Would suggest immediate medical attention.  How this relates to the procedure is unclear, but concerns for infection, medication reactions, problems with cognition, vitamin status, etc. are just part of an evaluation.  Do not delay.  An Urgent Care Center or an Emergency Room would be a good starting place.

HTN cataract: cataract sx is an avascular technique low risk sx however - important to have BP adequately controlled prior to any procedure.

Accepted Answer

May advance: Delaying the removal of a confirmed cataract simply means you go a longer time with impaired vision.  Later stage cataracts are also a bit more tricky to remove surgically.  However the basic rule is to consider removal when  your visual activities become difficult.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Yes.  You may have to go to a city to get it taken care of since there are limited providers in rural regions.
