mercury fillings in teeth... should i remove them? should i have my mercury fillings removed? i hear that there are real health concerns.

It : It is rare that i remove a mercury based filling and not find recurrent decay underneath. On this basis i would generally recommend their removal. On the topic of mercury toxicity, there is much controversy. That having been said, I have not used mercury based fillings for 25 years. I would recommend their planned removal over time and at your convenience.

have a filling on my front tooth(from 8/9 yrs ago), it has become yellow & looks worn out. wasnt a problem until the tooth became sensitive since 2 months, pain radiates from the same area as filling, xray shows healthy tooth. should i replace it?

: Although the radiograph shows a healthy tooth, the filling might be leaking, resulting in sensitivity. If the tooth is sensitive to cold and sweets, replace the restoration. If sensitive to percussion only, have the tooth tested for vitality... the nerve n the tooth may be necrotic.

Best filling: The best filling would be the one that requires the least removal of tooth structure, has similar physical properties to tooth, supports and strengthens the tooth rather than weakening it, lasts the longest, and looks the best. Personally, i feel tooth colored bonded composite fillings by a skilled dentist fulfill these attributes. Not the answer you probably expected. Amalgam fillings are safe.

Yes and no: Old fillings can leak and cause discoloration. Silver amalgam filling can leach silver ions into the tooth.. Tooth colored composite fillings can leak and stain at the margins of the filling. Major leaks can lead to decay, which can be dark.

Each office is independently owned and charges different fees based on materials, time, and complexity. It is such a broad range, that the answer is meaningless, but since you asked, $50 to $500 per tooth.

Never: Teeth do not regrow after being damaged by decay. You need to see a dentist.
