Release phenomena: As we relax/let go, we can suddenly become fearful or go on high alert because of letting our guard down.  Fear of dying is the ultimate letting go of control and control of the uncontrollable is at the root of panic attacks. Short Therapy: Your best bet is actually a very short course (usually 6 sessions) of cognitive behavioral therapy ... This has been proven time and again to work in these types of symptoms.  You can ask your family physician if they have a doctoral-level psychologist in your area that they might recommend. Or, most psychiatrists will be happy to give you the name of someone. Sleepless/fears: This could be the beginning of panic/worries often appear at night. If you notice fast breathing during these episodes, slow your breathing down (can blow 20 x in a paper bag). If it occurs not just at bedtime but
