: Fat in stool suggestive one eats much fatty food especially hydrogenated fats in fried foods or has digestive issues with bile and Gallbladder. The Gastroenterologist is who to see. Since water does not dissolve fat. Drinking much water has little or no effect

: It does not mean anything. You should only concern if your stool color is persistently white with daily bowel movement regardless what foods you ate on the previous day.

Number of tests: The work up of fat malabsorption includes the stool study already done, blood work, abdominal imaging and ERCP. These tests can be done under the supervision of a gastroenterologist.

Fatty Foods.: Not normal to have orange oily fat in stools.  Body usually absorbs 100% of fats consumed.  There is something wrong, either medications like 'orlistat' or Alli, or deficiencies of enzymes are causing this.  Sometimes a parasitic infection can cause this.  See your doctor about it.

What's the mass?: If you have a mass of any sort, your physician has a duty to tell you what it is. If the imaging specialist can't say for certain, a biopsy is in order. Please ask your physician for clarification.

i had neg- colonoscopy, egd, hida, ct abdomen/pelvis, ruq ultrasound, celiac panel. the small bowel series showed rapid transit. i also had a neg pancreas test. what on earth is causing my weight loss and undigested food/fat in stool?

Malabsorption: It sounds as if you are being seen by a gastroenterologist who has done nearly everything possible to evaluate you.  Strongly suggest, since you are in ohio, that you get a second opinion at the cleveland clinic.  If you do make an appt, bring all of your prior records.  Did you have a small bowel biopsy?

Absorption: Usually it means a problem in absorption. The fat goes through the intestinal tract not fully digested and ends in the stool. There are many reasons for this scene which you should discuss with your doctor to figure out the cause.

Small amt normal: Small amount of fat in stool is normal ; fatty stooltends to be foul smelling, pale/yellowish, bulky, sticky, greasy, sometimes with oil droplets in toilet.  Can be with intestinal problems, e.g. Celiac sprue, crohn's disease, tropical sprue, parasites, pancreatic insufficiency. Can be from olestra, (wow potato chips-poorly digestible fat), or Alli (causes malabsorption of fat), gastro bypass surg.

Healthy fats: 1. Yes it is. Good luck!
2. No need to eat at mcds-eat healthy fats. An average-size avocado has about 30 grams of fat. Almonds have 15 grams of fat per ounce, pecans 21 grams per ounce. So 1 avocado & about 4 ounces of nuts will do the trick. Can also have olive or flax oil on salads, wild king salmon(10 grams in 3.5 ounces), hummus (10 grams in 4 oz.), cheese (9-10 gr./oz) so it's not that hard!

i recently found out i have too much fat in my stool, fat malabsorption. ive been lactose intolerant for many years. can this condition cause fat malabsorption?

Accepted Answer

: Lactose intolerance doesn't cause such a problem. However, if you have increased intestinal motility and transit time -- which could occur if you accidentally have some lactose in your diet -- that could result in increase fat content in stool. Even without rapid transit, occasional high fat in stool isn't necessarily abnormal. Discuss with your doctor; or perhaps see a gastroenterologist.
