how fast would a lipoma on the top of a foot grow to be considered a "fast growing" lipoma?

Noticeable = fast: I don't know a speed per hour/day/week/month but if you notice it, it's faster than expected. If it hurts or even is uncomfortable - have it examined and removed if the provider thinks it is a good idea. Once cooler weather requires shoes, the procedure would be more annoying.  Also, w/ OA any avoided discomfort is good. So, have it checked now would be my suggestion.

i had lipoma removed in april. it's grown back on the side of my shin. it was sent to pathology and def was lipoma. why did another grow back so fast?

Re-excise: This is common, even if complete surgical excision rather than liposuction was used. And lipomas are often multiple. The surgeon will make a note that the lipoma is recurrent; the pathologist may take a few extra sections to look for malignancy.

confused! my numerous lipomas are not moveable or soft & are fast growing & i'm a cancer survivor.should' nt i have a biopsy to be on the safe side?

Sounds like it: Congratulations on being successfully treated for cancer. There are a few syndromes that may be mistaken by a competent physician for multiple lipomas, and there are multiple-lipoma syndromes in which they can be rather firm. For your own peace of mind, have one or more sent to your local pathologist. Glad you're proactive.

am a breast cancer surv, now l/ quadrant ab sono: 'numerous benign appearing lipoma'.they are fast growing bothersome - 5mths. should i ask for biopsy?

Lipoma: Lipomas in general are not cancerous. There are rare cancerous  lipomas. What i would suggest is serial monitoring within ultra sound like every 2 to 4 months. If it is growing yes obviously needs to be biopsied.

Larger than you want: First make sure your doc agrees its a lipoma. Other things benign or cancerous may be confused with lipoma. While lipomas are very rarely cancerous, any lipoma bigger than 3 inches should be removed completely especially ones that are on the arms or legs.

Need it looked at: Lipomas are usually benign but if it is growing rapidly it is.Needs to be removed and analysed.

No.: Usually lipoma only gets bigger. "move around" would not make it smaller.

Accepted Answer

Usually does not: Cause trouble except for appearance.  They have a small incidence of turning into sarcoma when they become larger than 4 inches or when they are located beneath muscle layer.  They are soft, so they don't impinge on nerves or blood vessels.

36 male, seam to be growing lipomas here and there too often. it seams 3 more appeared in last 3 months. what to do to stop having more of these?

Disease progressive: The appearance of lipomas probably represents the most common tumor found.  The majority are benign and while most occur subcutaneously some are found in the viscera such as mesentery of bowel.  Multiple lipomas fit into the pattern of Lipomatosis which is believed to be an autosomal dominant condition in which multiple lipomas are present on the body.  The process is progressive.

i have a tiny lipoma it doesn't appear to be growing, visably at least,  would surgery be vital at this point?
