Genes &: Having a genetic predisposition to obesity and on top of that depending on fast- food for your nutrition and spending your day in front of a screen is the typical sceen. Worse of all now we are seeing the third generation with this type of behaviour.

Many reasons: As adult obesity has increased, so has childhood obesity. This is essentially a trickle down effect, meaning we learn from our parents bad eating habits. Kids eat more fast food and have more sedentary activities such as video games. Also less expensive to feed a large family with fast  food so there is also a financial component.  Convience also plays a role with our fast paced lifestyles.

Some positive effect: A study published last summer in the journal pediatrics concludes that laws strictly curbing school sales of junk food and sweetened drinks may play a role in slowing childhood obesity. Primary role: Addressing nutrition is critical to all aspects of conquering the obesity epidemic in children.  Children must be counter conditioned against the advertising they receive and adults have to do a better job providing and modeling healthy food choices to children.  Additionally, we need to get kids moving again - sedentary activities like those in front of a screen will lead to shorter life spans!

2 things: Nutrition and exercise together are the way to preventing obesity in children (and adults).  Kids should eat fresh, healthy, non-processed foods most of the time.  Kids also must be active (really active, not just walking) for an hour a day.  They need to drink water and avoid all sweet liquids (juice, pop, gatorade, chocolate milk, etc.).

Excersice and diet: Eat as a family.  Do not depend on fast food for your daily meals. Limit screen time to 1 hr a day . Limit amount of carbohydrates . Get them involved in physical activity at least 4-5 hrsper week

Many.: Their parents are heavier than for children one generation earlier.  Eating habits in families of obese children are bad.  The cathode ray tube, or led of computers and games burn no calories.  It also displaces play time that previous generations have had.  Less calories spent; more bad food= obesity.

Diet & exercise: Unless there is an underlying medical condition, of which there are several, that can cause obesity, diet and exercise are the way all obesity is treated. In some cases, anti-obesity surgery is being used. However, before this, the child should be evaluated to make sure he/she doesn't have any medical condition causing obesity, starting with his pediatrician, and involving specialists if needed.

Competent parenting: Parents who are scientifically literate, firm, fair and consistent are all that we have in the war on childhood obesity. The fat kid is ridiculed and is set up for a lifetime of emotional and physical problems. I am not optimistic about the effectiveness of government spending or physician exhortation to deal with a problem that has its basis in the privacy of the home; others may disagree.
