Some positive effect: A study published last summer in the journal pediatrics concludes that laws strictly curbing school sales of junk food and sweetened drinks may play a role in slowing childhood obesity. Students exposed to strong laws at baseline gained less weight and were less likely to remain overweight or obese over time than students in states with no laws.
