Urine output varies: How much you eat and drink has more to do with your volume of urine than your size. It's true a big guy who is 6'8" will make more urine than a little old lady who is 5'5", but there is not a direct correlation to size. Stay well hydrated, drink at least 64 oz of water and non-sugary beverages a day and your kidneys will thank you!

Yes in diabetics: Diabetics with uncontrolled blood sugar will spill sugar into their urine. This will pull water out of the body and can lead to urinary frequency. If yu have this problem, you need to see your physician for the appropriate evluation and management.

Not really: Making 6 liters of urine means you drank a whole lot, likely too much. That said, it should effect your uric acid excretion too much. I would repeat the test with a more normal 2-3 liter oral intake of fluids. You should also have your blood uric acid level checked, and you urine ph with a dipstick.

Direct relationship: Antidiuretic hormone is a hormone secreted by pitutary gland in the brain which increase water absorption from kidney tubules resulting in decrease urine volume. Alcohol inhibits ADH (vasopressin) resulting in increased urinary production.

RAAS turn ons: The renin angiotensin aldosterone system is designed to maintain blood volume. It is turned on when there are actual fluid deficits, such as vomiting or dehydration, or deficits perceived by the kidney as those patients with congestive heart failure. As a result of increased activity of the RAAS, urine volume and sodium losses by the kidney decreases. High potassium is possible, as well.

No: Microalbuminuria represents the spillage of Albumin into the urine in small amounts.  Albumin is the most prevalent protein in the blood and is made in the liver.  Typically only negligible amounts of Albumin get into the urine.  One of the first signs of damage to the kidneys from diabetes is microalbuminuria.  The actual amount of urine produced is not affected.

Probably okay: Try to stay decently hydrated as your physician permits.  Everyone's blood pressure fluctuates as does the urine volume. The sudden onset of acute renal failure will leave you feeling very sick. Be careful not to take meds that may shut your kidneys down temporarily (ibuprofen is infamous) unless you have your physician's permission first; otherwise sudden kidney failure is unlikely.

: You do not have urine retention by those results. Old people usually have higher post void residual volume but less than 50 cc is still considered normal. Take care.
