are there exercises i can do to improve my urine flow, even though i have bph?

Accepted Answer

No: Prostate enlaregement, or bph, occurs as a natural part of normal male aging process. Since this is controlled by hormones, there are no exercises or foods one can eat to help improve the symptoms. If a person becomes symptomatic, then medical therapy may be indicated after an initial evaluation by your physician.

what are some 'non-pill' methods to improve urine flow diagnosed as bph?  if i take enogh fluids, i am up and down all night. thanks.

Wait and See: Urine flow issues tend to get better and worse on their own. If you have good kidneys and drink enough fluid, you will be up and down all night. That is what the kidneys are supposed to do, process fluids. I ight take the opposite approach, if you get up and doen all night when you drink enough fluids, maybe you should drink a little less after dinner and see how it goes.

i am 27 and have noticed significant decrease in force of urine flow. is this a sign of bph?

Accepted Answer

BPH: Not likely.  BPH does not occur in your age group.  Symptoms are more likely due to prostatitis.  It may also be from medication (eg allergy meds) or a urethral stricture (narrowing).  See a urologist for evaluation.

i would like to ask you a question if it is normal for a 40 year old man to have to urunate 1 time every nigth during sleeping hours, if this means he could be suffering from bph? also what about would be the normal urine flow/intensity for him?

See remark: At 40 yrs,BPH is uncommon.Voiding once is not that bad but is not common.Do you drink fluids,alcohol,
coffee,tea,a lot of fruits before bedtime?they all cause your complaint.I don't want to go into detail of flow and intensity which require special instruments.Abstain from excessive fluids at night,if you still are bothered with the one-time getting up @ night,see a urologist

Sounds appropriate: Sounds like the urologist wants to get a visual of what might be causing a urinary flow issue. A cystoscopy sounds appropriate, however, you can discuss this with your family doctor or internist, and possibly get another opinion by a second urologist.

i initially went to my gp  complaining that i had difficulty  starting a urine flow first thing in the morning. the doctor diagnosed bph.  i was then prescribed tamsulosin 400.  the result was not satisfactory and made no dif?

Trouble peeing: Discuss with your Dr. You may need to add a drug that shrinks prostate. Tam works on bladder control muscle.

i have bph, i have been on flomax for two months or so. it does help with the urine flow, however the side effects are killing me. light headed, brain fog, sometime dizzy etc. i work out everyday but feel lousy. what is this doing to my body? thanks?

: Those symptoms could be the adverse effects of Flomax. You should discuss with the prescribed physician and request a substitute.

i don't want the rectal exam, can the dr examine my prostate other way? i have done it in the past twice and had inflamed or enlarged prostate, i think. now i have similar symptoms with slow urine flow and weak?

: There are some high resolution MRI studies that may come close to revealing what a prostate exam does. If you have lots of cash and are willing to pay out of pocket for the study you can likely find a facility that will do it. I know of no 3rd party insurer that would pay for the study just because you don't want an exam.

been on flomax (tamsulosin) .4mg / day for bph for 2 years. have several side effects. when i stop flomax (tamsulosin) can my urine stream stop entirely? if so what would i do?

Lower urinary tract : There are other medication options, depending on your specific side effects. A urologist would evaluate you for a variety of issues related to your bladder and prostate.

No: Flomax (tamsulosin) like other meds to help reduce urinary retension should not beused when the prostate becomes so enlarged that it produces obstruction and backup of urine into the kidney to cause hydronephrosis.  Lremovalofprostatic tissue to minimize the dam blodcking the flow ofurine from the bladder into the urethra is thebest approax to  employ.
