which drug is more effective for aldosterone issues, spironolactone or eplerenone and why?

Minor differences: They both block aldosterone. Eplerenone is more expensive but it doesn't cause testosterone suppression. Spironolactone block aldosterone and testosterone so there is more side effects with this med. Pt on high dose spironolactone (more than 150 mg) has higher chance of developing gynecomastia.  Due to cost, Aldactone is normally tried first, if there is side effect, then Eplerenone is used.

Interesting Med: Inspra (Eplerenone) is a medication used for hypertension but it is also effective in patients with heart failure after a heart attack. It is in a class of medications that blocks aldosterone, a mediator of sodium reabsorption into the body.  Inspra does have side-effects and interacts with some medications so be sure to discuss this with your doctor if you are considering this medication.

inc'dntal finding 14mm adrenal adenoma on abd ct. have htn, eplerenone only effect. prescription for bp control.  adenoma causing htn? curable if adenoma remve?

Very small: This is a very small adenoma, which is reassuring (&gt;60 cm worrisome). There is recommended screening when these are found to see if they are functional. Though eplerenone can skew these results, if the adenoma is functional (i.e. cause of your BP elevation) it will likely still be positive. If functional, then surgical resection would be an option.

: Yes, it should with less side effect compared with spironolactone but it is more expensive. Do not forget the key diet for ascites treatment is limited fluid and salt intake. Good luck.

once daily, i am taking aldactone 75mg, concor 2.5mg, tritace (ramipril) 10mg and aspirin 100mg.  i have been diagnosed with primary hypertension and conn's syndrome.  i wish to replace aldactone with eplerenone due some side effects i don't particularly

You could: Talk to your doctor to make the switch. However, also ask why you are not a surgical candidate.
