i had a mri for low back pain and it showed i had a enlarged  uterus but i am having no symptoms i only have a herniated disc in back? please explain?

The uterus can be: Enlarged for several reasons, the most common are multiple pregnancies and benign smooth muscle tumors, called leiomyomata or fibroids.

The findings on MRI may be incidental - meaning unexpected and generally unrelated to the patient's symptoms, but not alway unimportant.

The ultrasound: Will help determine why the uterus is big. A common cause would be benign fibroids. Malignant tumors of the muscular portion of the uterus are very rare. Secondly, a measurement of the endometrial thickness will be made. Excessive endometrial thickness is most often seen with overgrowth (hyperplasia) which is benign. However endometrial cancer can also do this and could cause uterine enlargement.

Hormone imbalance: Get reliable pregnancy test. If negative. Try to use provera (medroxyprogesterone) 10 mg daily for 7 days. If no period, you may need to be evaluated with work up for hormonal imbalance.

This a variation of endometriosis,  formerly called internal endometriosis.

Fibroids or growth: An MRI is a great tool to assess size, location and possible compression effects of fibroids in your uterus. Fibroids are muscle tumors that are benign.  Another indication would be adenomyosis.  This condition, glandular cells that line your uterus, migrate to muscle layer causing bleeding and pain.  Your doctor might be looking for other types of growths or tumors.

The uterus can be larger because of noncancerous growths like fibroids or endometriosis, cancer, or a thicker lining from hormone irregularities. Some people can just have a larger uterus than "normal". Hope this helps some.
