The ultrasound: Will help determine why the uterus is big. A common cause would be benign fibroids. Malignant tumors of the muscular portion of the uterus are very rare. Secondly, a measurement of the endometrial thickness will be made. Excessive endometrial thickness is most often seen with overgrowth (hyperplasia) which is benign. However endometrial cancer can also do this and could cause uterine enlargement.

Complete the imaging: The ultrasound will provide the information needed to decide if there is anything to worry about or not. The uterus can be enlarged for many reasons, including multiple pregnancies to term and benign growths called fibroids. Please follow up with your doctor after the ultrasound to decide what to do next.
