Yes, but...: A molar eruption, mouth sores, gum damage, or anything else in that part of the mouth can lead to an enlarged node nearby (such as submandibular or neck nodes). However, the more common causes are strep throat and viral infections in kids. If there is nothing wrong with a child, and the only thing is one enlarged node, some doctors just recheck it each month for 2-3 months.

i have an enlarged submandibular gland and now the doc wants to do an ultrasound. how come?

Non-invasive: Before proceeding to biopsy your doctor wants to know the consistency and general structure of the lymph node, whether it is cystic, etc.  They are proceeding cautiously in a systematic progression of tests.  Ultrasound is not invasive and can yield valuable info.  Keep up with this good doctor.  Also, why don't you ask them why they are doing this.

i feel enlarged submandibular gland but mri came back normal. doctor said it's only a muscle. should i seek second opinion.

Probably not: If the imaging was truely normal, you are unlikely to have any pathology present given your current signs.

Lymph nodes: Any infection can cause enlarged lymph nodes. What you describe is very possible but not necessarily the cause in your case.

ive got just above 1/2 inch enlarged submandibular, cervical and submental lymph nodes. they havent changed in 3 years and there mobile and bean shaped and also not painful. i have no signs of infection too. could this be cancer?

: Ask every day to the end of time and the answer will not change. Normal sized and positioned nodes are not a sign of cancer. You have been informed on what steps must be taken to be sure. If you are not willing to see a doc and have them removed for pathological study, you are wasting your time and that of site docs.

enlarged submandibular lymph nodes for about 6 weeks. us showed multiple straight prominent lymph nodes measuring 0.9 x 1.1 x 1.8 cm and 1.5 x 1.0 x 1.6 cm. cbc normal besides wbc (3.0 l). could this be from 2nd covid shot which i had 2 months ago?

: Lymph nodes are your body’s way of eliminating infection, in this case, head and neck.  They can persist days to weeks and should shrink with time.  If they are small, usually no problem.  At six weeks it is reasonable to see your doctor to discuss and to have a good physical exam.  Most likely this will resolve.  It's probably not your vaccine - that would be armpit nodes.

i have sjogren's syndrome.i have had enlarged submandibular glands on both sides. ct scan report suggested no mass or stones found.is biopsy needed?

Maybe: If there's suspicion of lymphoma. Have you had anti-Ro / anti-La drawn (SSA/SSB)? Since Sjogren's isn't all that treatable, making a solid diagnosis may not be key -- or an insurance company may want it.

More likely a node: It's more likely a lymph node. If it's swollen or tender have a dentist check it out.

over the past 5 years i have had chronically enlarged tonsils, an asymmetric enlarged submandibular gland and nodes, and a swallow test showed a motility disorder. can these all be related and be being. aided by something systemic?

Accepted Answer

: There are probably more than one issues. If your tonsils have not increased in size in 5 years, that rules out a tumor. For the lymph nodes in the neck - You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor.
