See a surgeon: The first thing one thinks of is gallbladder but more info is needed.  Your spleen may or may not have anything to do with your symptoms.  Do you have other illnesses?&gt; anemia?  Have you seen an md?  Have you had any surgery before?  The majority of your symptoms may benefit from removal of your gallbladder but the spleen should be worked-up.

where exactly would you feel pain from an enlarged spleen? does it hurt in the front, side, back? can it compress your diaphragm?

There are: usually NO SYMPTOMS associated with an enlarged spleen (some patients complain of a "sense" of "fullness" in the left upper abdomen...compression of the diaphragm is very unlikely!

Spleen painful: It sound like yourbspleen is not ny enlarged but painful.  See a hematolgist next.

Usually not: Enlarged spleens peek out from below the rib arch on the left, but won't protrude upward. Even if the abdomen is sunken in and fully relaxed, most people have enough fat and/or ab muscle to prevent it from being visible even when it is easily felt. A very large spleen (gaucher's, schistosomiasis, malaria) might be seen as an asymmetry in the upper left quadrant.

i have mildly enlarged spleen. blood work came back ok, but im still having pain..more uncomfortable everyday. what could be the cause?

Splenomegaly: This can be due to numerous conditions, not all diagnosed simply by routine testing. Infectious mononucleosis and syndromes simulating this are common causes of splenic enlargement, as are a variety of hematological malignancies. Hopefully you are being seen and evaluated by a thoughtful pcp who can refer you elsewhere if necessary. Good luck.

i was diagnosed with pneumonia 3 weeks ago, which also showed i had an enlarged spleen and heart. i was told the spleen was enlarged due to being so sick, why would my heart be enlarged, is it also part of pneumonia? and will it go back to normal size?

Get 2nd opinion: This doesn't seem like a complete picture. Consider getting a second opinion from an internist or hematologist.

Unlikely : As a MRI is like pointing a camera and focusing in on a certain region to take a "picture" and a spleen may not be within that focused area

Possible: If your pain is on the left side, it could be your spleen, but is more likely a pulled muscle or kidney problem.  You need to see a doctor to be sure.

Splenomegaly: Enlarged spleen can cause back, flank, and abdominal pain. You really do need to get it checked. Don't overdose on nsaids & tylenol (acetaminophen).
