chf medication, what is a enalapril substitute?

CHF med substitute.: Enalapril is an ace-i. It leads to vasodilatation and naturesis.  Thereby decreasing the the cardiac pressures and work the heart has to do to work.  Substitutes are nitrates with diuretic calcium channel blockers.  It is contraindicated in bilateral renal stenosis new renal dysfunction and sulfa allergy to some of them.

what is the difference between the medications enalapril and lisinopril and which one is better?

Differences: Both are in a class of medications called ace inhibitors primarily used for the treatment of high blood pressure. Neither is specifically "better" although Lisinopril tends to be slightly better in overall BP reduction. Side effects are similar with persistent cough in about 10% of patients. Both are generic medications.

can enalapril cause veins to be more visible? i can clearly see veins on my palm, before medication i couldn't. other veins on my arm are not dilated.

No: Veins are thin walled, low pressure structures. They fill and become engorged when they're below heart level and they collapse when held above heart level. Try this: raise your hand above your shoulders for 30 seconds and see if you still see your veins?  Enalapril will dilate arterioles (small arteries), especially in your kidney. It has no effect on veins.

Safe drugs: You need to see your primary doc for the safest drug for high blood pressure, we do not know what type of sexual problems you are having taking enalapril. What is the cause of these symptoms. Are they related to Enalapril or to hypertension, do you diabetes or peripheral vascular disease. Do you have erectile dysfunction syndrome or is it psychological sexual problems. We dont know, hence see doc.

Heart rate: There is a difference between these drugs in the amount of arterial vasodilation. The Felodipine can be expected to dilate arteries more than ramipril and have more secondary heart rate increase associated with it. Likely you don't have a concern.

Well...: As part of the guidelines for treatment of people with diabetes, an ACE inhibitor (such as Enalapril) is recommended.
If his kidney function is not too compromised he must take it.
Talk to the Dr. there are alternatives, and all the others do pretty much the same.
It is safe and necessary drug

Change meds: Responses to drugs are highly variable. Less than 10% of people report a cough when taking enalapril; for many of those it's mild. Sounds like this isn't a good fit for you. I'd ask your doctor to prescribe a different medicine. Enalapril is an ACE inhibitor; you may or may not tolerate a different ACE inhibitor better but a similar class of meds called ARB's may work as well without side effects.

Enalapril: Enalapril is an ace-inhibitor (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor) does work in the kidney (but is not a water pill) and is a stronger medicine to lower blood pressure. If blood pressure is under control and you are low in potassium due to the hctz (hydrochlorothiazide= a water pill) you could ask your health care provider about a reduction or stopping.

hi, i am having high bp, around 140/90 and has gone above that a little and i was on enalapril 5mg years ago and came off it. can i take it  again?
