A member asked:

Which one make my pressure lower enalapril or hctz (hydrochlorothiazide)? when to cut down on hctz (hydrochlorothiazide)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Enalapril: Enalapril is an ace-inhibitor (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor) does work in the kidney (but is not a water pill) and is a stronger medicine to lower blood pressure. If blood pressure is under control and you are low in potassium due to the hctz (hydrochlorothiazide= a water pill) you could ask your health care provider about a reduction or stopping.
