Okay: IUDs do not protect against STDs.  Always use a condom when having sex to protect against STD if you don't know if your partner's STD status. Withdrawal method does not protect against STDs.

Contraception: Both Mirena (levonorgestrel) and syla are very effective forms of birth control. The insertion takes 5-10 min, and you may have some cramping the first couple days. Then menstrual bleeding will likely decrease over the next few months, with some women no longer having periods. The removal only takes a couple mins, and again only has some crmaping. It is a great birth control, and you should talk to your doctor.

: Such supplements that might affect oral birth control hormones should NOT affect effectiveness of IUDs. Kyleena, Mirena, and Skyla work by releasing a low-dose of levonorgestrel (a progesterone) which is thought to prevent pregnancy by thickening cervical mucus to help prevent sperm swimming into the uterus, inhibiting sperm motility and survival, and altering the characteristics uterine lining.

: Yes, it does.

Accepted Answer

No: One of the benefits of an IUD is it works passively, whether he finished in you or not. The withdrawal method is never effective birth control anyway. You can take it if you want, but it is unnecessary while you have an IUD.

No: IUDs are better at their job than BCPs because once it is in you don't have to remember to take it every day. It is just there. You should not have to be taking a pill in addition.

Equally effective: These are both equally effective. There are quoted as over 99% effective. It is not likely that a Healthtap  doctor can quote the Pearl index for each specific product of the top of their head but the manufacturers website will list this information inside the package insert describing the instructions for use.

Probably not.: The IUD mainly works mechanically, by ,not allowing the egg to implant. But the wise thing is to continue your previous method of contraception for about 1 month after any new methods (IUD) have been put in place.

Yes,: the hormones of the Skyla IUD leave your system in about 4 days, after removal. This could leave you temporarily low in hormones, till your ovaries become more active in producing estrogen, prior ovulation.

i have an expired skyla iud. i got it when i was 16 and it is expired by a few years. i am terrified to go to the doctor and tell them how long i have had it in for. i would like to know what the possible risks are for getting it removed so late?

: Only way to find out is to talk to a local Dr. Prob low risk.
