A member asked:

I have an expired skyla iud. i got it when i was 16 and it is expired by a few years. i am terrified to go to the doctor and tell them how long i have had it in for. i would like to know what the possible risks are for getting it removed so late?

How long you have had the IUD has little to do with the process of removal. If it does not readily come out (perhaps more likely, but not necessarily) then you would need additional management (for instance ultrasound and hysteroscopy).
