i am 21 wks preg & think i have a superficial blood clot behind my knee. i think it was caused by too-tight compression socks during prev preg (sig edema & socks top band was too tight). can this turn into dvt? treatment?

Maybe superficial: This is likely not DVT.  DVT usually is associated with leg swelling and pain.  DVT has a higher incidence in pregnancy.  If these symptoms are present, contact a provider.

how long will i have house wifes knee (prepatellar bursitis) for once i start treatment?

Accepted Answer

Knee Bursitis: Fluid over the knee can occur after working on your hands and knees.  If the fluid is drained it usually will resolve. Sometimes it may take multiple aspirations.  If it is drained use ice , do not use heat.  If you are being treated solely with rest and anti-inflammatory meds it may take several  weeks to resolve.  The most important point is to try and avoid direct contact to the area.

is it possible a large internal soft tissue cyst to the right of knee could be causing lymph blockage resulting in generalized edema in whole body?

Accepted Answer

Anatomically, no. : In that scenario, theoretically speaking, I’d think the edema would be only in the lower right leg and no place else. If the edema is in the entire body, I’d look for another reason.

i had a knee mri because both my knee caps been aching for over a month, what does report mean. there is mild insertional patellar tendinosis and slight adjacent soft tissue edema. quadriceps tendon is normal. regional musculature is preserved.?

: You probably have overuse patellar tendinopathy from walking and running tends to localize to the mid-portion of the tendon and sometimes toward the insertion on the tibial tubercle. Icing, supportive taping, and patellar tendon straps are adjunctive treatments that provide some relief of symptoms. A short course of oral or topical NSAIDs can be used for analgesia.

Low Odds of Benefit: Most trauma ; symptoms are soft tissue, not bone. Neither x-ray or MRI have any direct benefit, though are widely promoted based on theory that a few details they sometimes reveal might turn out to be important, though that is not common ; rarely affect treatment in truly beneficial ways. Better find an experienced physician who focuses on problem solving ; helping you  understand body ; function.

Knee swelling: Effusion comes from synovial irritation, arthritis, connective tissue disease, injury. Hemarthrosis can be from fracture, major ligament or vessel injury.

Yes: Heat, anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen 600 mg twice daily), exercise (walking) for a couple weeks.  If no improvement see orthopedic surgeon.

Microtear: or tendinopathy( tendonitis)- get an MRI and a knee brace. See an orthopedic expert and avoid exercise until cleared.

Knee Pain/ RICE: 34 year old gentleman with history of traumatic injury to knee around 10 days ago. Initial swelling in the knee which has partially resolved however continued swelling and pain has continued. You should visit an orthopaedic surgeon. Your knee stability can be assessed, along with the function of your cruciate ligaments, neuromuscular status, and imaging studies. Rest, ice, wrap with ace, elevate.

More details please: Knee surgery may mean either an arthroscopic procedure or knee replacement.
After four months an arthroscopic procedure should have been well healed and recovered.
For most individuals total knee replacement complete recovery takes 12-18 months some as short as 6 months depending on the amount of surgery.
