It's non-specific.: Ct findings are usually non-specific for ectopic pregnancies. Trans-vaginal ultrasound is generally the imaging modality of choice for ectopic pregnancy, along with a measurement of beta-hcg level to assist in diagnosis.

In addition, it should be noted that ct exposes a possibly non-ectopic fetus to ionizing radiation, so it is not ideal as a diagnostic tool.

C MD: If you are concerned about a possible ectopic pregnancy then you need to be checked immediately. Did they not do a pregnancy test before the ct scan? Other things like cysts, endometriosis, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, hernias can all cause those symptoms but most are detectable on a ct or a pelvic ultrasound. A muscular strain or injury would not. Get it checked.

It should: Ultrasounds are quite good at localizing ectopic pregnancies, or at least documenting empty uteri.

Briefly: Gestational sac defines intrauterine (non-ectopic) pregnancy, seeing one makes ectopic unlikely. Not impossible to have "one-in, one-out" but uncommon esp. if you didn't use fertility medicines. Yolk sac should be present at 6+ weeks, but if EGA is wrong it may be too early. Would need to see the scan and interview to say more, highly recommend talking with an OB doc in person. Best!

how long would it take your gp doctor to organise a ultra sound scan for an ectopic pregnancy? would an ectopic pregnancy be picked up in a test?

Immediately: If there is a suspicion of an ectopic pregnancy, an ultrasound should be ordered immediately and done the same day. This is considered a medical emergency.

my hcg was tested as 1328 2 days ago,  1358 today.  the sac in the womb measured as 5.5 weeks as scan shows. so no ectopic pregnancy? will i miscarry?

Time will tell: Sounds like you had a threatened miscarriage? Your HCG is not rising appropriately. Depends on what you mean by sac if it is an ectopic or not.  You will need to be closely followed. If you have pain or bleeding you will need to go to the ED.

ectopic pregnancy, i had blood tests done and came back 1800 which indicate that im 8 weeks pregnant however we did internal and external scan and dr could not pick up anything, not on my ovaries besides two cysts on my one ovary, second opinion?

Ectopic pregnancy ?: HCG levels are not reliable with ectopic pregnancies, secondary to poor circulatory vessels outside the uterus proper.  A sonogram may not show a tubal pregnancy or an abdominal pregnancy outside the uterus.  Get another HCG test to be certain that the pregnancy has either increased in size or has aborted spontaneously.  Increased pain should be investigated promptly.

Ectopic pregnancy: You can have pelvic pain or right or left lower quadrant pain, which can present as an acute abdoemn at times. You may have irregular bleeding as well.

if my pregnancy doesn't show up at 5 weeks on a scan but shows positive on home test, is it possible for ectopic pregnancy? i had 3 positive test

Possible ectopic: It’s possible you have an ectopic but more likely just a very early pregnancy. Typically your blood beta-HCG levels are monitored to see if increasing and a scan is repeated a week or two later. It’s also possible to have a spontaneous abortion.

i can only get an appointment at 14 weeks for a scan. i have been for a scan at 6 weeks because i was worried about ectopic pregnancy. is this a probl?

Ok, as long as no : pain or bleeding is noted.  The first scan located an intrauterine pregnancy, the next check can document good growth and viablity of the fetus.
