i am expecting to have a lentigo maligna removed. i have had 2 tias and am taking clopiwin plus.  what are the risks if i need to stop the medication in order to have the procedure.  would i be able to take ecotrin for a few days?

: The issue involves risk of prolonged bleeding and delayed clotting, and you must stop any antiplatelet drugs for about 5 days preop.  This is NOT an issue to be handled here, but rather you need to fully discuss your co-morbidities with your surgeon and anesthesiologist.  Typically, you will be unlikely to suffer a TIA or stroke when temporarily suspending your medication

how do i get my strength back. i have been taking 1 bayer asprin and 1 ecotrin for a month. suffered a mild stroke last year since then have been taking the asprin. this month i took ecotrin with which i shouldnt have. i am also a diabetic.

physiatry: If you haven't been assessed by a physiastrist - strongly encourage that.   They are Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&amp;R) physicians. They can develop a plan working with physical therapy to help you regain your strength. Good luck.

Low dose bcp's: Bcp's  are available with lower estrogen components, but breakthrough bleeding is common unless one takes the active pills punctually (within the hour of the preceding day).  Ask your gyn provider to recommend a low dose oral contraceptive.

How many more ?: Aspirin overdoses were more common years ago when it was in common use. It is still a problem based on how much the kid took &amp; when. One or two may not do much harm but you should contact your doc or local poison control center in your country for guidance.

Yes, but...: MKennedy,  there are many, many, many, many different brand names for a handful of medications. Aspirin is no different. Simply look no further than the ACTIVE INGREDIENT! Ecotrin is a coated lower dose aspirin usually taken daily by at-risk people to prevent heart attack and strokes caused by a blood clot. The coating makes it easier on the stomach.

Not very: Studies have shown some value, but the most useful dose is a full aspirin taken four times daily, which almost always causes gastritis.  Once daily aspirin is inferior to clopidigrel, and Aggrenox (which contains ASA).

Ecotrin (aspirin): Is enteric coated aspirin. Aspirin is a platelet inhibitor. The enteric coating is to protect the stomach from irritation by the aspirin.
