Congestion: It sounds like you have an upper respiratory infection which is causing nasal and upper airway congestion which is blocking off your eustacian tubes.  This causes obstruction in the passage of air into the middle ear and leads to the popping sensation.  It should get better as the infection runs it's course.  An oral or nasal decongestant may give some short term relief.

You have: eustachian tube dysfunction,which explains the ears popping. It probably has to do withe plane ride. Your eustachiaan tubes are clogged and pop open when you burp or yawn. Chewing gum may help open them. An oral decongestant may help,like sudafed.

: Contact your ENT specialist for an exam and treatment. You may have a blockage of canal and or ear wax that needs to be removed.

No: The ear tympanum can become weak from overuse and poor nutrition. Occasional dehydration can also permit  as popping noise against the small bones behind the tympanum.  Eat good quality oils and fats and stay well hydrated, especially when changing elevation.  This should lessen the urge and loosen the knuckles a bit too.

: I recommend getting evaluated and treated by your physician or a gastroenterologist as hiccups lasting over 48 hours interfere with your daily activities &amp; can cause health problems. The associated ear discomfort is unusual. In my opinion, old fashioned thorazine is the most effective treatment for prolonged hiccups.

Ear problems: It is less likely to be a piece of earwax. If you are having tinnitus and if it is one sided then it needs to be examined. Sometimes allergies or congestion can also cause this. Please get it examined.

i have clicking/popping sound in ear when i burp im almost 99% sure it isnt ear wax. i also have sudden onset tinnitus in right ear no noticeable hearing loss. could it be eustachian tube dysfunction and glue ear?

Recommend: Suggest you get audiogram and even have visit to ENT specialist.  Tinnitus can be associated with hearing loss, but the sudden attacks may raise question of Meniere's.  Hope this helps.

They certainly can: When using the sinus rinse, it is common for the irrigation fluid to contact the nasal end of the Eustachian tube, which can pop the ears.  Some people can feel fluid in the tube and even feel it in the ear.  If this is especially uncomfortable, try spraying the rinse less vigorously or changing the angle that you hold the bottle.
