Congestion: It sounds like you have an upper respiratory infection which is causing nasal and upper airway congestion which is blocking off your eustacian tubes. This causes obstruction in the passage of air into the middle ear and leads to the popping sensation. It should get better as the infection runs it's course. An oral or nasal decongestant may give some short term relief.
