: MS doesn't cause cataracts or even glaucoma. Digestive disturbances &amp; pins and needles may be seen frequently n MS. Cataracts can develop at age 57. Your neurologist can advise you further.

Blur: The most common symptoms of early cataracts are blurred vision, glare and sensitivity to light. If you are having any of these symptoms, see your eye doctor to determine whether cataracts are the cause.

Easily treated : Cataracts come in all sizes.  They are easily treated by an opthalmologist. Help her reduce her worry. Very simple thing to have and to treat.  The opthalmologist will decide the best time and size when to treat it.

UV and cataracts: Ultraviolet light is known to increase your risk of cataracts.  If you do not wear UV blocking sunglasses, you are increasing your risk.    If you move north, you might decrease your risk, but we would still recommend sunglasses to reduce UV exposure.

Vision problems: Such as blurring, glare (like difficulty seeing when oncoming headlights are seen on the road), rapidly changing eyeglass/contacts prescription. See an eye doctor.

Causing problems: Presence of cataracts does not mean they need to be removed.  It's worth the risk of cataract surgery, when they are causing visual disability almost every day and cannot be corrected with glasses/contacts.

Cataract: Most people with symptomatic cataract will report glare and haloes during night driving, problems seeing road signs until they are close to them, trouble reading even with glasses, and/or trouble seeing in bright sunshine.  If you concerned about possible cataracts, see your local ophthalmologist.

Maybe: Most cataracts grow slowly, so odds are you wont change for another year. If you want to save money, so don't buy them now and see what happens- depends how unhappy you are.

No: Cataracts have no relationship to presbyopia.  Presbyopia means that the lens is so stiff that it cannot bend enough to allow for adequate focusing for near vision.  Cataracts are cloudy lenses that usually occur years, if not decades, after presbyopia starts.  Both cataracts and presbyopia are caused by aging of the lens.

why is surgery not performed at the first sign of cataracts? i hear you should wait until it interferes with activities, but wondering why.

Standard of care: Guidelines for removing cataracts are setup by the american academy of ophthalmology. Symptoms that interfere with an individuals activities of daily living plus decline in best corrected visual acuity to 20/40 or less (or glare disability) in at least one eye, may qualify for cataract surgery. Other symptoms may include loss of depth perception ; monocular double vision. Why? Based on risk/benefi.
