A baby who does NOT raise arms to be picked up at 6-9 mos., consistently turn to name at 9 mos., wave "bye" responsively &amp; play Pat-a-Cake &amp; Peek-a-boo at 9-10 mos., or point with index finger for desired objects at 12 mos. needs a multidisciplinary evaluation by your state's Early Intervention Program.

Social interaction : A few things. One it's important to have a hearing test to rule out hearing impairment.  A hallmark of ASD is abnormal social functioning such as preferring not to be held or cuddled. Limited eye contact or interest in conversation. ASD often also presents with delays. Delays alone, however, are less likely to have social dysfunction and are usually more specific. I hope this helps.

: Autism is an issue but the observations you describe sound perfectly normal to me, a former senior fellow in a child development program after a pediatric residency. Your pediatrician should start some developmental screening for such issues a bit later. Right now, try to enjoy baby and converse with him in normal language tones that help him imprint the sing song quality of speech.
