A few things: Red flags include poor eye contact, speech delays, not seeking comfort if scared or hurt, not liking to be held, odd movements that are symmetric on the left and right side of the body, and little interest in social interactions.

Firstsigns.org : Is a good website. Some clues: babbling & language are absent, delayed or deviant from typical progression. Bizarre jargon not resembling native language (e.g., "digga-digga" & "wizza-wizza")..Pulling adults toward a desired object instead of pointing @ 12-14 mos. Play is repetitive banging/throwing/ lining up of objects instead of feeding a doll @ 12 mos or pretending to talk on phone @ 16 mos.
