The : The most important thing to do if you have not already is to check a home pregnancy test.  If you see any line in the positive section you should see your doctor for a blood test.  Her symptoms could be from a miscarriage or from a pregnancy outside of the uterus called an ectopic pregnancy.  This is a very dangerous condition.  Upper abdominal pain can be a sign of a worsening condition.  I would recommend doing a pregnancy test right away and if it is positive, calling your doctor right away.

Because they are so common in the 1st trimester, we usually do not begin to evaluate miscarriages unless you have had more than 2.

Early miscarriage: Sometimes a period delay will then result in an early miscarriage at less than 6 weeks gestation. An ultrasound can detect if the uterus is empty or still has products of conception  present. A definitive answer would only be possible at this early stage if you had saved any tissue that was passed and it was sent to the Pathologist for analysis.

HCG: You still have HCG in the blood, could be ongoing pregnant, incomplete miscarriage, or possible ectopic pregnancy. No need to panic, but I have concern - check with your doctor again this week.

Not likely: A woman has to be pregnant before she can miscarry. If she is miscarrying now, she will likely have a positive pregnancy test now. Also, people who are using their birth control method properly are rarely going to get pregnant.
