i got my daith pierced almost a week ago and have now started to suffer with ear pain behind the back of my ear ? the piercing doesn't look infected

Infection possible: There are lymph nodes (&quot;glands&quot;) behind the ear called postauricular lymph nodes.  One of their jobs is to filter out &amp; kill bacteria, preventing infection from getting into the bloodstream. They can become painful &amp; swollen when there is infection of the external ear. Even if the ear itself does not appear infected, there is a possibility that it is so.  It is worthwhile being examined in clinic.

Ear pain: Ear pain can be challenging, particularly when your ear looks normal.  I see this quite frequently and usually the pain is coming from a nearby structure.  One if the most common is the jaw joint.  The jaw joint and the ear canal actually share a bone.  Other things can feel like ear pain, too.  A sore throat or even a problem with the thyroid or the voice box.  You need an ENT to check it out.

Likely a variant of: You need to be evaluated. Likely what is called trigeminal -autonomic neuralgia for which medications like Lyrica (pregabalin) could work. Sometimes naprosyn works. Rarely is this a presentation of bell's palsy, but you would have facial weakness by now. Also an ear infection (otitis media) should be ruled out.

See ear specialist: You did not mention how your ear started to hurt. Do you have swimmer's ear, or cold symptoms and ear pain from the inside? Soldering optic is to relieve pain and inflammation by contact. It sounds like it has not been helpful. With swelling behind the ears, and your pain when you open your mouth, the inflammation sounds severe. You need to see your doctor or an Ear. Nose. Throat specialist!
