Yes: Despite having myringotomy tubes, you can still get an ear infection.  Often, if tubes are still in place, an infection may cause drainage from your ear.  If you have ear pain, and suspect an infection, see your dr.

Not advised: This would go into the tube and potentially harm her middle ear. Have your doctor give you a script for Ciprodex drops which would be much safer for an ear infection.

Depends: Most ent's would prefer to have an angry active infection treated for a while to calm it down before putting in tubes. It is also quite difficult to do if the ear infection has produced a  hole in the ear drum where the tube is supposed to go. All these issues are best analysed by the doc considering the procedure. Sometimes, the operation can proceed as scheduled.

Expectations : Middle ear fluid accumulates &amp; persists when your natural Eustachian tube does not drain the normal middle ear secretions. Ear tubes simple allow the middle ear to vent those secretions to the ear canal while any Eustachian irritation/ dysfunction heals naturally. As long as there is retained fluid it can become infected.  They help infants more reliably than adults but for some they do wonders.

Most random ear infections can be treated with an antibiotic if deemed bacterial (not viral). In infants &amp; toddlers an infection that has not cleared in 90 days with multiple meds or has recurred 6X in a year is often best managed with tubes.

Bacteria can enter : From the external auditory canal ;#40; as with q-tip use;#41; or from inside out from the nasopharynx. Pressure equalization tubes keep barometric pressure in the middle ear the same as ambient barometric pressure. If there is an overt or submucous cleft palate or if the baby drinks formula or juice in supine position, reflux of liquid into the middle ear can occur despite pet&#x27;s. See my comment for more.

Possibly: You could experience a significant amount of pain with this. Sudafed will help. I have never seen anyone who ruptured an eardrum from this so you may want to take a few sudafed and chance it.

Not sure of question: If you mean that you are having ear infections following the placement of ear tubes then the tubes themselves sometimes can be the cause of infection. Occasionally bacteria can form around the tube and lead to infections. Usually antibiotic ear drops will solve the problem, rarely the tubes have to be removed.
