Yes: Despite having myringotomy tubes, you can still get an ear infection. Often, if tubes are still in place, an infection may cause drainage from your ear. If you have ear pain, and suspect an infection, see your dr.

It happens: Unfortunately the tubes are about the size of bb shot, and the hole down the middle is even smaller. If debris like ear drainage or wax covers the hole, the tube cannot allow air to pass through or drainage to escape. This recreates the condition with no tube & allows ear infections.Some times the ENT can suck the blockage out of the tube in the office if the patient can sit still.
