reaction to neomycin-polymyxin-hc prescribed for ear infection this morning - i have taken two doses - experiencing dumbness and swelling on right side of face. please advise.

This : This is per webmd  "a very serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), redness of the ears, severe dizziness, trouble breathing." i would get emergency treatment now.

It's not middle ear: Middle ear infections don't cause facial swelling. You may have an outer ear canal
infection called swimmers ear or external otitis. See an ENT doctor now.

YES: This sounds like an infection settling into your cervical lympg nodes. Expect the swelling to worsen and I strongly suggest an examination and strep test. Use Advil or Aleve if not allergic to NSAIDS. Tylenol Extra Stength is also an acceptable alternative.

Reactive lymph node: Hi:
if the lymph nodes remains normal for the most of the time and swells intermittently (likely due to inflammation from infection or small trauma such as canker sores etc), then it's less likely to be serious.  However, if you find the lymph node staying enlarged persistently without an obvious cause, you should visit your doctor to see if further work up is needed.

Maybe, maybe not: This is not uncommon.  Lymph nodes, once enlarged while helping to fight infection, may not return to normal size for lengthy time periods.  On the other hand it never hurts to have an experienced clinician take a look at this and make sure nothing more serious is in progress.

If standing stops it: then what you have is a buildup of mucus in the nose and it is fine when it drains.  Sleep propped up on several pillows, drink more than the usual amount of liquids, and stop taking antihistamines if you were taking them for the ear so the mucus stays loose and can drain.

Pain causes spasm: The pain of external otitis can take days to resolve, but decreased swelling is reassuring.  It is not uncommon when there is inflammation in the lymph nodes, that the muscles around that area will tend to cramp, and that may be the reason for the stiff neck.  Also, when muscles cramp,  movoement causes pain, so unsure which came first. Ibuprofen taken orally and gentle neck massage may be helpful
