how helpful is recumbent bike in helping with weight loss? any suggestions on what to aim for (duration/intensity)? am 35, morbidly obese.

I think any : Excercise is a great start. I would also watch what gets put into your mouth. The good think about the bike is if you are very heavy it doesn't put that mu ch stress on your knees. I would advise you to visit your doc for a good physical prior to any new onset workout. Meaning if you werent working out before..let them know...to make sure you can handle....

See below: The same as a non-obese person. A person can live about 3-4 days without any fluid intake and about 7-10 days without food.

: Earlier obesity in girls seems to be associated with an early onset of puberty , though the association is not as  clear in boys . The effect of different hormones like leptin  is supposed to play a role. .Some studies have shown that obesity  before five years of age,  is   more likely to be  associated with earlier puberty including menarche, perhaps due to the effect of insulin related factors.

Exercise: You should walk at least half hour daily on the treadmill, longer if possible. You need to cut your calorie intake also. Some folks find that going down to 500 cal a day for two days a week helps move weight loss along.

Depends on ur stomac: The gastric emptying scan / study: by eating a meal cooked w/ a tracer &amp; following it; if it takes more than ~2 hrs, u have gastroparesis (more common in obese diabetics &amp; requires meds to increase stomach motion). Make sure u follow instructions on (not) eating b4 the test so ur stomach is empty. The tracer is imaged &amp; timed - it moves as fast as ur body allows. Obesity makes the images fuzzier.

Slow process: It is a slow process but the key is to be persistent in losing weight. Remember the diet has a major role to play. U should have ur primary care doc check your liver function test as that is a good indicator of recovery.

Yrs possible: With compensated cirrhosis there aren't any symptoms. The liver can still work well because there's enough healthy cells to make up for the damaged cells &amp; scar tissue caused by cirrhosis. If this is treated properly it may be possible to stop or slow down liver damage. Therefore with a proper diagnosis of the cause &amp; treatment it's possible to live for years. Urine test: Cotinine test is usually done on urine and it is expected to clear in 2-3 days after use of tobacco.
