Clove Oil: and OTC NSAIDs or Tylenol (acetaminophen). However, the most proper and efficient treatment can be provided only by your dentist.

does the paste  used for dry socket promote healing or does it just help with the pain? how long does dry socket last typically?

Dry Socket Paste: The application of dry socket paste helps treat alveolitis (inflammation of the bone at the extraction site). It can last from a few days to more than a week. An unfortunate complication following tooth extraction.

Not the paste: The drilling may hurt if not properly anesthesized but the paste won't.

Do not disturb: You shouldn't put anything into the socket to disturb the clot that is forming.  The clot at this stage is easily disturbed and can be dislodged which will lead to a dry socket.

Maybe weeks: Dry socket can be quite painful, and is accompanied by bad breath odors.  Oral drugs/medications are not usually very helpful.  For temporary relief, go to your drug store and buy some dental wax. Shape a small piece of  it to fit the open area between your teeth and press it to mold to the space and the dry socket. You can sleep with wax in place, as well.  Replace the wax every day or two.

Not the best choice: Beer or any alcohol is not the best choice after treatment.  Try to limit any vigorous drinking or rinsing for 48 hrs to allow the medicine to work and relieve your symptoms. A better choice would be water, electrolyte drinks, or protein drinks to speed healing

is it ok to keep gall pads in my mouth since the dry socket paste came out 6 hours after applied. what can i do to make sure it's healing properly.

Better Idea...: Go back and have the paste reapplied. The paste has medication to help the socket heal faster and to ease the pain.

Call your dentist: You may be developing an infection, or it can be minor swelling due to the procedure. Either way, it should be examined.

Go Back ForA Re-Pack: I wouldn't be worried by a little bit of pain or sensitivity to hot or cold, but if it's bad, or ramps-up to bad, it will need to be re-packed and made sure there is no infection, especially if there is increasing swelling. In the meantime, Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin and avoid foods with tiny particles or seeds. Rinse frequently. But get back to your dentist ASAP.

when can i start cleaning my socket with salt water after dry socket is pasted? would toughing out the dry socket without packing it, promote healing?

Don't: The dry socket was probably caused by your rinsing out the area to begin with.  You must learn to leave it alone.  Do not rinse it out. Toughing it out will not help it heal faster but will only make you more uncomfortable.
