Maybe weeks: Dry socket can be quite painful, and is accompanied by bad breath odors. Oral drugs/medications are not usually very helpful. For temporary relief, go to your drug store and buy some dental wax. Shape a small piece of it to fit the open area between your teeth and press it to mold to the space and the dry socket. You can sleep with wax in place, as well. Replace the wax every day or two.

Dry socket: May take weeks to heal. You might profit from having the medicated gauze removed and replaces. Oral antibiotics may help. See the General Dentist or specialist Oral Surgeon that treated you for additional post-surgical care.
