53 year old male has facial and hand twitch tics at the same times when overly excited, its most intense when anticipating intimacy. what are possible causes? i need ideas of what it could be to convince him to see a dr?

Accepted Answer

: Would classify within a "movement disorder".  Could represent a compensated essential tremor, a forme-fruste of Tourette's, or even paroxysmal chores-athetosis, amongst some thoughts.  Unlikely to be a profound problem, but could be treated and controlled with contemporary medications.

hi my 3 year old fell at school and hit his head on the floor. left nostril was bleeding. theres no bumps yet just bruising. nose stop bleeding. teacher said he was fine he is napping now though. should i take him to dr?

Head trauma: Just need to observe x 1-2 days. Emesis, head pain or swelling or a change in
alert status warrants an MD visit. Otherwise, rest, Tylenol for pain or fever,
and observe at home. Glad the nosebleed stopped quickly, common in kids in general.

Cartilage injections: As of this date the technology does not exist for us to inject cartilage into the joint and give patients any lasting real relief.   Total joint replacements are the hold standard technique for giving patient long lasting improved motion and pain relief.

Anxiety: Anxiety is not a certain reason for your symptoms. Please see a doctor. We often treat anxiety with cognitive-behavioral therapy and/or medications. Sometime what may seem like anxiety is a thyroid problem, hormone problem, or low blood sugar

I don't think so: Never been to the same bar mitzvahs, weddings, funerals. My dad came from a large family; i only found out about the relations on my grandmother's side (reuben).

what causes a meningioma to calcify and how can a dr tell that its benign without removing it?

Accepted Answer

: Almost all meningiomas are considered benign and do not necessarily need surgery unless growing and compressing the brain. 
Calcification is a sign of chronicity and suggests a lack of change over time.   If you are concerned, request a meeting with a neurosurgeon and discuss the pros and cons of a craniotomy.

my labs always say "result status:final." but on my last it says "result status: edited results."
what does this mean? why would dr edit the #s?

Don't let paranoia: get the better of you! Lab results are usually edited when the lab personnel have some reason to believe there was an error on the initial analysis. Perhaps they discovered they needed to replace reagents (chemicals needed for processing), etc. They rerun the specimen to make sure they reported the accurate result and sometimes they have to correct it.The ordering doctor doesn't change your result

i think i have herpes, i went to the dr, he didnt really say if i had them or not, but i dont know if i have the symptoms or if its imaginary ?

Recurrent blisters: Happen with herpes in most cases, if no active lesions it is more difficult to say.   Blood tests can show new or previous exposure.
HSV Type 1 lesions are usually less severe, (cold sores), very common. HSV Type 2 lesions are more severe and numerous, particularly with first outbreak.  Anti viral medication can help decrease recurrences.

heartbeat 110 and correct sz for 6w4d, levels aren't rising currently 7w1 4879.  dr wants more tests. worried pg doomed even with u/s results. is it?

Rise is important: More so than the actual number of your HCG is how fast it's rising.  Typically, doctors are going to want to see a HCG double in 48 hours.  That signifies a normal pregnancy.  Having said that, there are definitely successful pregnancies where this value doesn't quite double in 48 hours.  The heart beat is appropriate for a 6 week gestation, but a little low for a 7 week gestation.  Good luck!

poss. eating different changed my sodium levels? been 120's for yrs! i didn't want another med/dr appt. 8wks later it's now 137!can it raise that fast

Occasionally: Sodium levels in the 120 range are abnormal and can be caused by losing sodium or retaining too much water or by certain glandular abnormalities like Addison's disease or inappropriate ADH (vasopressin) secretion. Your hyponatremia can be corrected by reducing fluid intake, receiving sodium chloride or taking cortisone. An endocrinologist is best qualified to answer this question,however.
