Need more info: I understand you're taking both topical and oral doxepin, reasons for taking and doses not known. You need to rule out side effects of last doxepin dose change, even though a small increase, with prescribing doctor before assuming anxiety is the cause. You may be getting a higher dose of doxepin with topical and oral meds being additive than you realize. I hope this helps.

what is difference doxepin (silenor) & (sinequan)?   what is dosage for insomnia for both types?  why both called  doxepin?  seem very different.

Doxepin = generic : Silenor and sinequan are both doxepin, the generic name for the medication.  The only difference is the dosages.  Silenor comes in 3 and 6mg strengths, but sinequan's smallest dose increment is 10mg -- and it's a capsule which can't be cut in half.  Sinequan is fda-indicated for depression, not insomnia. Prescribing sinequan for sleep is an "off label" use; giving silenor is an indicated use.

No.: Capsules cannot be broken in half to get a smaller dose consistently.  Speak with your physician about changing the medication or dosage.

Yes. It is not : Unusual to be on an ssri and a tricyclic at the same time. For safety reasons, however, i would get an ekg checked while on the combo  to make sure that there are no potential cardiac changes and a Doxepin level can be drawn to make sure that it is in the therapeutic range. on doxepin 25mg for 4 days. hate it. last dose on 4/20. how long does it take to get out of system w/ that dose & timeframe? when can i safely drink?

Important: When psych medications are prescribed, it is very important to be in close touch with the prescriber. He or she can help one manage the side effects that are often most intense at the beginning, but often (not always) transient. In general there are alternatives to doxepin, if the side effects persist and are intolerable.

i accidentally took a double dose of sertraline, meaning 400 mg. i am also prescribed doxepin, 300 mg, which i also took with my nighttime meds.

Accidental overdose: Probably will not be an issue if this was a one time occurrence; however, I suggest holding off sertraline for 1 day and then resume you normal dose. These medicines should never be taken at the same time. Stagger doses by 6-8 hrs and notify your prescribing physwician.

hi, i wonder if i can take 1mg ativan today after taking for 3 days doxepin 25mg? (last dose yesterday night), i am taking celexa 20 every morning?

Interaction: Low dose doxepin and celexa is a reasonably common and tolerated combination, but ativan added to the mix is concerning as side effects are much more likely. I would like you to get your pharmacist's opinion about this matter.

Minor issue: You do not have to modify your medication schedule for your bedtime dose of doxepin.  Take as regular.

been taking 25mg trazodone for a few months & then 50 in start of july. about two weeks ago i took a dose of doxepin 50mg with 25mg traz at night. felt bad, hazy.only 1 time but still feel hazy. is this from doxepin, do i have to taper after 1 dose??

: I would attribute this effect to the interaction between the 2 medications. I don't recommend the combination.  There is a warning about the combination potentially causing a dangerous cardiac arrhythmia.  I don't see a need to taper off doxipen after only one dose.

if a red, itchy rash with no contact triggers improves with antihistamines (claritin (loratadine) or low dose doxepin) does that mean it is probably eczema?

Itchy rash: Antihistamines control the itch, whether it is eczema or not, the mechanism of itching is common to a number of rashes and antihistamines only help with the end result but not with the cause. To have a proper diagnosis, you need to have yourself evaluated by a dermatologist or allergist.
