Doxepin should not be used in anyone who is allergic to amitriptyline, amoxapine, clomipramine, desipramine, imipramine, nortriptyline, protriptyline, or trimipramine. Allergic symptoms may include: swelling of tongue, throat, lips or face, as well as difficulty breathing and hives.

Strong antihistamine: Doxepin is an effective but sedating tricyclic antidepressant. This drug's sedating effect is significantly due to its powerful antihistamine effects. Most recently it has been marketed at lower dosages as a sleep medication.

i accidentally took a double dose of sertraline, meaning 400 mg. i am also prescribed doxepin, 300 mg, which i also took with my nighttime meds.

Accidental overdose: Probably will not be an issue if this was a one time occurrence; however, I suggest holding off sertraline for 1 day and then resume you normal dose. These medicines should never be taken at the same time. Stagger doses by 6-8 hrs and notify your prescribing physwician.

i took trazodone (50mg) for 2 years for sleep and then reduced/stopped in december. i took it again a few months ago on 25mg and then went up to 75 the past three days. i want to switch to doxepin. how can i switch it safely?

: If you are cautious, you can take trazodone 25 mg along with doxepin for a couple days then stop it.

been taking 25mg trazodone for a few months & then 50 in start of july. about two weeks ago i took a dose of doxepin 50mg with 25mg traz at night. felt bad, hazy.only 1 time but still feel hazy. is this from doxepin, do i have to taper after 1 dose??

: I would attribute this effect to the interaction between the 2 medications. I don't recommend the combination.  There is a warning about the combination potentially causing a dangerous cardiac arrhythmia.  I don't see a need to taper off doxipen after only one dose.

i took the doxepin 10mg over 2 hours ago n not even slightly tired can i take a 5mg melatonin  too?

Combined sleep aides: Generally speaking, if you are not feeling sleepy from the sleep aide you've been prescribed and at least 30 minutes has passed, it's okay to take melatonin. Some patients routinely take melatonin alongside the prescription sleep aide and it seems to have a synergistic effect. If the melatonin alone works for you, though, taking just that and foregoing the prescription medication is a good option.

i had propofol today for a procedure that lasted about 25 mins, around 4:30pm and just took 50 mg of doxepin at 11:00 pm, is that ok?

Yes: but you are probably going to be sleepy , and groggy the next day

Need more info: I understand you're taking both topical and oral doxepin, reasons for taking and doses not known. You need to rule out side effects of last doxepin dose change, even though a small increase, with prescribing doctor before assuming anxiety is the cause. You may be getting a higher dose of doxepin with topical and oral meds being additive than you realize. I hope this helps.

: It is best to talk to your doctor. Often, a higher dose than 3 mg may be required. Take care!

Yes: Just beware of the additive side effects such as drowsiness , dry mouth, constipation etc.
