Yes: Any food is reasonable if you moderate it to your overall energy balance.  Calories in must = calories out, or else weight gain occurs; an olympic athlete can eat like a pig, calorie wise, but their exertion and metabolism allows them to burn off the calories they take in.

my 23mo recently vomited two diff times w/ no other symptoms...caretaker thinks she is reacting to eating packaged deli meat - is this really possible?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: It is possible.  There could be something in the meat such as a preservative that might cause that.  Although, there are several other possibilities.  It could be over production of stomach acid which is called reflux.  It could be from upper respiratory drainage.  It may be a very isolated benign case and may never happen again.  In any event, if the symptoms continue, the child should be examine.

what is more healthy, frozen meals or the deli meats?

Accepted Answer

Neither.: Prepared foods are usually very high in salt and low in fiber, so neither is very healthy.  You could get a "healthy" brand of frozen entree and then add a large portion of veggies (without added fat or salt) to add fiber, crunch, color and health!

Deli meats: Avoid deli meats, pate, unpasteurized milk & imported soft cheeses (listeria) ** things made with raw eggs (salmonella)** . Avoid alcohol (fetal alcohol syndrome) ** avoid high caffeine in beverages (^ miscarriage rate in some  studies)**raw meat (coliform bacteria, toxoplasmosis, & salmonella)** & fish high in mercury.

About the same: In general, cheese is not the best choice for weight loss.  It's high in saturated fat and generally high in calories.  One or two deli slices a day is not going to hurt, but don't overdo it.

i've normally eaten processed foods in the form of deli ham & sausages maybe 2-3 times a week (sometimes, i double-dip). i'm  concerned about cancer.

Healthy diet: There is no immediate risk. For good health: Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco or alcohol in any form.

what is the difference between msg and nitrites? i noticed some deli meat says no msg but does not say no nitrites. does that mean it has nitrites?

Different food: additives. MSG =mono sodium glutamate, it is usually uses as a flavor enhancer, in Chinese  foods. Nitrites are added as food preservative. Some foods are naturally high in nitrites, e.g. celery, so when the label says no nitrite added, it may still have nitrite in the form of celery juice.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

i was told i can't eat anything from a deli, while pregnant. it's that true?

Avoid: You will be more certain that your food is not contaminated with bacterial or chemicals when you prepare it yourself from scratch.

once you have haf campylobacter does it live in your system.  this is my third time, hospitalized twice.  doctors have said no deli meats, fresh fruit?

Reinfection more: Likely. It is more likely that you keep getting reinfected from the foods you eat, rather the bacteria persisting despite treatment.
